Highly Effective Dental Cleaning

Ultrasonic Dental Cleaning

Most of us were brought up thinking that oral care, including ultrasonic dental cleaning, is as exciting as, well, going to the dentist. At My Dental Club, we’re aware that we’re the thing that folks refer to when speaking about something that is decidedly un-fun. But those folks haven’t been to My Dental Club. Take one step into our office and you’ll see we have turned that frown upside-down. Natural light. Comfortable couches. Pops of color and art on the walls. We’re independently owned and know it’s the little things that make you smile! That’s why we take the time to ensure each moment of your visit with us is relaxing and enjoyable from start to finish.

Preventive Dentistry

Ultrasonic Teeth Cleaning

You’ve probably experienced a dental exam where the dentist spends time scraping away at your teeth. It’s called dental scaling and root planning and it’s necessary for most patients to keep their teeth and gums healthy.

In the past, scaling was done by hand — and it’s still a common procedure in dentistry today. Performed with a metal instrument known as a scaler, your dentist scrapes your teeth and under your gums to remove what your toothbrush might have missed.

But now there’s an easier way for your dentist to give you a gleaming smile! Ultrasonic dental cleaning is available to remove more dental tartar in less time, with no metal scraping!

We also know it’s the bigger things, too. Regular checkups and cleanings are a form of self-care. It’s not just that your smile shines brighter, but also the fact that you’re prioritizing your health. Ultrasonic teeth cleaning removes the buildup of tartar and is highly effective at cleaning deep pockets in your gums that are hard to get to with manual instruments. If it’s been six months (or longer) since your last, give us a call and we’ll be happy to get you set up with an ultrasonic teeth cleaning appointment. Preventive dentistry is at the heart of our patient-centered, conservative approach to dental care, which also includes periodontal carefillingscrowns and bridges, and more. Stopping by our office for an appointment every six months is a great way to care for yourself and prevent everything from irreversible cavities to oral cancer.

If you’ve been covering your mouth when you smile, we want to remind you that your smile has the power to make someone’s day! That includes your own. It’s why we greet you with a comfort menu of beverages and amenities, including beer and wine for adults and games and toys for kids. And it’s also the reason we treat you with empathy and compassion and put you at your ease with a joke or three. We want you to have confidence in us so you can be confident in your smile. Then you can spread it around like sunshine on a warm Austin summer day! For ultra-fun ultrasonic dental cleaning, contact My Dental Club for appointments at our Barrackpore or Freeport offices today!

What to Expect With Ultrasonic Cleaning

During ultrasonic dental cleaning, the dentist uses an instrument called an ultrasonic scaler, or Cavitron®. The Cavitron distributes ultrasonic vibrations to literally blast dental tartar, or dental calculus, off of your teeth! As the ultrasonic scaler vibrates, it produces sound waves to break apart stubborn calculus. Water flows out of the tip’s end to wash away debris and keep the scaler from overheating. Although you won’t feel the vibrations or hear the sound waves, you’ll most likely notice that your teeth feel cleaner. And your dentist will have significantly reduced the amount of dental plaque bacteria that causes most dental diseases.

You might be interested in an ultrasonic cleaning if:

You have a large buildup of dental tartar. Over time, the bacteria and dental plaque in your mouth form hard deposits of calculus, leading to tooth decay if left untreated. Unfortunately, your toothbrush isn’t going to help — only a dentist or dental hygienist can remove calculus from your teeth.

You have periodontal disease. Ultrasonic dental cleaning is used to remove dental calculus from under the gum line as well. As plaque creeps beneath the gums, it forms pockets of calculus that attack the surrounding gum and bone tissue. The result is gum disease, which can eventually lead to tooth loss. Scaling is usually the first type of gum disease treatment used to battle periodontal disease, and it can easily be performed with an ultrasonic dental cleaning system.

What Are The Benefits Of Ultrasonic Dental Cleaning?

Ultrasonic dental cleaning offers both the dentist and patient several benefits:

  • Using state-of-the-art ultrasonic dental cleaning equipment cuts down on the time it takes for scaling and root planning by removing more dental calculus at once.
  • The procedure is often effective in limiting the progression of the early stages of gum disease.
  • Scaling isn’t painful and can usually be done without local anesthesia or sedation dentistry. If you do experience sensitivity, your dentist can provide options to make you more comfortable.
  • Ultrasonic dental cleaning is so powerful it can reduce the appearance of tooth stains!

Ultrasonic cleaning should be combined with hand scaling for optimal effects. The ultrasonic scaler is primarily designed to remove only large deposits of dental calculus, leaving your dentist to manually remove any tartar that’s left behind.

Because of the use of sound waves, ultrasonic cleaning may not be an option for patients with pacemakers. Be sure to inform your dentist of any medical conditions or prescriptions you’re taking before undergoing any dental procedure.
